Royal Media Services (RMS) – the company that is behind Citizen TV,
Radio Citizen and a number of vernacular radio stations – sent out a
communique on Wednesday, October 26 announcing plans to downsize staff.
The internal memo which was authored by the Group Managing Director
Wachira Waruru said the company had to re-organize their workforce as a
result of the changes witnessed in the broadcasting industry.
The company said it would undertake the exercise while adhering to
legal provisions and that the affected members of staff will be provided
with necessary support to help them manage the transition.
Well-placed sources at the Dennis Pritt Road-based media house have
informed us that the management has already started cracking the whip
and some of the faces we have gotten used to seeing have been shown the
door.
Among those affected by the job cuts is Kirigo Ngarua who once hosted
the “Power Breakfast Show” alongside Willis Raburu but was reassigned
to reading news only.
Business news anchor Terryanne Chebet has also her been fired and
sources revealed to us she to that she admitted to having lost her job
in a WhatsApp group.
