As Donald Trump’s
supporters celebrated his inauguration on Friday, and hundreds of
thousands worldwide prepared to take part in the Women’s March to
protest his accession, president Barack Obama and wife Michelle
presented to the world their plans for the future. The couple posted a
video on their new YouTube channel to announce the launch of their
foundation.
“The Obama Foundation will be a living, working startup for citizenship -
an ongoing project for us to shape, together, what it means to be a
good citizen in the 21st Century,” the page explains. “We are based on
the south side of Chicago and will have projects all over the city, the
country, and the world.”
As well as explaining that they planned to take a holiday to get some
much-needed rest and just be “still”, the duo urged people to help shape
the foundation by getting in touch.
“We want to hear from you,” Barack Obama added. “Tell us what you want this project to be and tell us what’s on your mind.”
Before
the project gets underway, however, the couple’s break begins in Palm
Springs, where the Obamas will have some time away from the cameras with
their daughters - having vowed to take them somewhere warmer than
Washington DC, Us Weekly reports.
