A lighting struck a Chinatsa Secondary
School on Thusday afternoon and five students died while 34 were injured in
Marondera, Zimbabwe.
According to teachers, two students died on
the spot while the other three died at Marondera Provincial Hospital where they
had been referred to for treatment.
One of the teachers at the school said that
they were at the usual Thursday afternoon assembly when the lightning struck.
The teacher also said “no one has any idea
what really happened as all the students and teachers fell to the grounds.”
Another teacher said most of the student
were seriously injured while others were left undressed after their school
uniforms were burn.
Local community was shocked with the
terrible incident because the sky was clear and there was no sign that it would
rain on the day.
The 2016/2017 rain season has witnessed an
increase in deaths due to lighting strikes.
Last week, six people were killed while
they were attending a funeral at Siachilaba in Binga when a lightning struck a
tree they were sheltering under.
