A former flight attendant attending a human
trafficking seminar in Houston has shared her experience of rescuing a
14-year-old girl from a human trafficker by leaving her a secret note in the
plane's restroom.
49-year-old Shelia
Fredrick noticed that the girl was disheveled and looked nervous. She left a
note for her in the restroom
49-year-old Shelia Fredrick said she had
noticed that the girl was disheveled and had greasy hair in contrast with the
well-dressed and groomed man she was traveling with.
She added that she tried to strike a conversation
with the girl several times but the man always intervened and ended them before
they could speak any further.
Shelia said she then left a note for the
girl in the restroom asking if she needed help and indicated to her to go
there. The girl saw the note and responded that she indeed needed help.
Shelia was a flight
attendant for 10 years, and the incident happened on an Alaska Airlines flight
Shelia said she then informed the pilot of
the Alaska Airlines flight from Seattle to San Francisco. The pilot notified
airport police who then arrested the man upon landing.
She has been in contact with the girl over
the past few years. The girl is now in college.
